Light Art for the City Jubilee “880 Years of Eddersheim”
Light Art by Andreas Juergens – Where Shadows Shine
<main>
Friday & Saturday, August 8–9, 2025, Eddersheim Maiwiesen, from dusk.
In celebration of “880 Years of Eddersheim,” six extraordinary light art installations transformed the riverbank promenade, the Main River, and nearby urban spaces into a poetic experience of light, nature, mist, and movement. At the core is the making-visible of the invisible: air, flow, and change. Light becomes a language that creates spaces, illuminates nature, and invites visitors to dream.
1. Cloud Play – Sky and Rays (starting from the stage area)
A floating plane of light turns the sky into a constantly evolving spectacle of mist, wind, and beams. Rising fog shapes moving cloud patterns, repeatedly interrupted by a radiant fan of light. A meditative dialogue between form and dissolution—between nature and light art.
2. Glowing Seas – The Luminous Surfaces (west end of the festival grounds, meadow by the playground)
Two gentle light surfaces flow across the lawn, making shrubs, trees, and grasses shimmer. In the center, a slowly opening tunnel of light appears like a second sun—a portal to the fantastic. Nature is not merely illuminated here—it becomes an integral, breathing part of the overall artwork of light and shadow.
3. Fairy Forest – The Magic Tree for Dreaming (on the festival square, easy to spot by its sparkle)
Trees along the promenade are transformed into a luminous fairy forest. They begin to sparkle as if from a fairy tale: a play of light points, glimmer, and quiet magic. A place of imagination for both young and old.
4. Projection of “880” – A Number in the Shifting Light of Perspective (trees behind the stage to the east)
The number “880” and the Eddersheim coat of arms are projected onto a group of trees behind the stage. Clearly legible only from a specific viewing axis, the projection dissolves into a glowing cloud of light as you move. A symbolic reminder that history—like truth—often depends on perspective.
5. Cloud Flow over the Main – The Visible Breath of Nature (visible along the riverbank)
A calm, horizontal plane of light floats above the water. Fine mist reveals the invisible air currents over the river—like nature’s own breathing. Reflections and fog weave into a poetic duality of reality and illusion, water and sky.

Impressions from the All-Around Successful 880th Anniversary Celebration in Eddersheim
The warm praise already on the very first evening was a great joy for me as an artist. Thousands of enthusiastic festival guests were enchanted by the calm, meditative light art – and became part of the installation themselves, changing the image for everyone with their own shadows.
The gentle glow over the River Main invited people to pause and created moments of stillness in the midst of the anniversary celebrations.
These photos show that a city or community festival can become a truly special experience without fireworks or loud shows – through sustainable light art that touches, connects, and opens new paths for event design. An inspiring example of how contemporary art can enrich city and community celebrations.
